Prof. Peter K. Ngure Serves as Vice-Chair of UNESCO Working Group on Mandate Implementation Review

H.E. Prof. Peter K. Ngure, Kenya’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, is serving as Vice-Chair of UNESCO’s Open-Ended Working Group on the Mandate Implementation Review, alongside Ambassador Greer Alblas, Permanent Delegate of Australia to UNESCO.

Through five substantive meetings, the Working Group has engaged UNESCO Member States in constructive dialogue on ways to strengthen mandate implementation, sharpen organisational priorities and enhance institutional effectiveness.

The Working Group has also submitted a comprehensive report, marking an important milestone in the review process and reflecting the collective contributions of Member States, the UNESCO Secretariat and participating delegations.

Reflecting on the progress made, Prof. Ngure expressed his appreciation to all those involved in the process.

“I am grateful to Member States, the UNESCO Secretariat and colleagues for their commitment and constructive engagement. Our shared objective remains clear: a more focused, effective and responsive UNESCO, equipped to deliver its mandate and advance peace and sustainable development.”

Prof. Ngure’s role as Vice-Chair forms part of Kenya’s continued engagement in UNESCO’s multilateral processes and its participation in discussions aimed at strengthening the Organisation’s ability to effectively deliver its mandate.
